The UAE has launched the region’s first comprehensive climate monitoring system to track greenhouse gases and air pollutants nationwide. Introduced at Gitex Global 2025, this platform offers real-time, reliable data to help policymakers develop informed climate strategies, advancing the nation’s NetZero 2050 goals.
Dr. Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak, Minister of Climate Change and Environment, stated, “We cannot manage what we cannot measure. The National MRV system’s launch marks a significant advancement in our environmental governance. This strategic tool allows us to precisely measure emissions, assess environmental impact, and fulfill our climate commitments responsibly.”
Besides tracking emissions, the system simplifies reporting and data gathering, reducing the preparation time for national emissions inventories from 15 months to just three—a cut of more than 80%. The process has been streamlined from 11 complicated steps to four automated ones.

The system was developed over four years, incorporating international best practices, defining methodologies, and conducting multiple pilot phases.
Dr. Alanoud Alhaj Al Ali, Acting Assistant Under-Secretary for Green Development and Climate Change at MoCCAE, described the system as a national “compass” for evaluating progress towards NetZero by 2050, created in collaboration with government bodies across all emirates and the private sector. During a two-week pilot in May, about 200 users were trained on the platform.

The system automates formerly manual processes, consolidating data collection and standardizing emission factors, thresholds, and reporting methods across sectors like energy, industry, transport, infrastructure, buildings, and agriculture. Private companies with emissions can register, identify their sector and activities, and automatically receive relevant data fields, replacing a cumbersome workflow involving 64 Excel files, 245 entities, and 11 procedural steps.
Dr. Alhaj highlighted that automation has reduced reporting steps by 64%, cutting the time to produce national or international climate reports from 15 months to three, saving considerable manpower and resources. She stressed that the platform is designed to evolve, with ongoing stakeholder collaboration to ensure the UAE remains a leader in climate monitoring and digital innovation.
“Decarbonization and achieving NetZero is not just a government effort,” she said. “Private sector partners are crucial. Our system enables them to assess emissions, track progress, and meet decarbonization goals, while the government provides guidance and support to make the process as seamless as possible.”
