The UAE community is mourning the passing of Hussain Abdulrahman Khansaheb, a visionary leader in construction and a dedicated philanthropist. After inheriting the leadership of the Khansaheb civil engineering company in 1954 following his uncle’s passing, Hussain transformed the firm into a powerhouse in the construction sector.
One employee fondly recalled him as someone who “never turned away anyone in need” and prioritized people’s well-being. Hassan Al Ameer, a Senior Project Manager at Khansaheb Group, worked closely with Hussain for a decade.
“Whenever I visited the administration office, he was often there with his son Tariq, discussing company matters,” he remembered. “There were 34 houses in Ras Al Khaimah built by the company. I was tasked with handing over these houses to the government, as I was from the emirate. Throughout the process, he frequently inquired about the houses and whether the needy had moved in. Ensuring the truly needy occupied these homes was crucial to him.”

Charitable Nature
Hassan noted that Hussain’s generosity was limitless. “I never saw him refuse anyone in need, whether at home or work. He always helped,” he said.
“His primary concern was how he treated people. When a longstanding employee died during the COVID-19 pandemic, they asked the widow what she wanted. Though she was Indian, she wished to remain in the UAE. Hussain ensured the company covered her housing and renewed her residency. This was just one of many incidents,” Hassan added.
Hussain’s charitable works extended beyond the UAE to several countries. “I can’t imagine how many orphans and widows will mourn his loss,” said Hassan. “I knew him only slightly, but he had the kindest heart.”
Legacy
Under Hussain’s leadership, Khansaheb shifted its focus to construction, resulting in the creation of several UAE landmarks like St. Mary’s Church in 1967, the Clock Tower roundabout in 1969, and Sharjah Airport in 1975.
On social media platform X, UAE Vice President and Dubai ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum honored him as an “infrastructure pioneer” and praised his enduring charitable contributions. Other users remembered him warmly. “We’ve lost a noble man known for his generosity, humility, and good character, who left an indelible mark on society through his humanitarian efforts,” one user commented.
Another commented, “Every home he built and every life he touched ignited hope. His legacy will continue to inspire humanity.”
In 2021, Hussain was awarded the prestigious Abu Dhabi Award by UAE Ruler Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed for his humanitarian achievements. During the ceremony, Sheikh Mohamed tenderly kissed him on the head before presenting the award.
