Following the directives of UAE Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the UAE has committed US$550 million to the UN’s Global Humanitarian Overview (GHO), which aims to generate US$33 billion in 2026 to aid around 135 million people in 23 global humanitarian operations, including programs for refugees and migrants.

The immediate goal is to safeguard the lives of up to 87 million people requiring urgent assistance with a $23 billion fund.

This initiative underscores the UAE’s dedication to enhancing global efforts in life-saving and crisis response for the world’s most vulnerable populations.

This support highlights the UAE’s role in fostering multilateral humanitarian efforts and its collaboration with UN agencies like the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), as well as relief and development programs on the ground, ensuring swift aid to those in dire need, in line with His Highness’s directives for a prompt and efficient response.

Reem bint Ebrahim Al Hashimy, Minister of State for International Cooperation, stated, “The UAE remains committed to global humanitarian efforts, working with our UN partners to deliver aid to those most affected. This pledge reflects His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s directives and our deep belief in international solidarity in addressing urgent humanitarian needs effectively and sustainably, preserving human dignity.”

Tom Fletcher, UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator at OCHA, welcomed the pledge, saying, “Our global appeal focuses on saving lives in the hardest-hit areas and turning plans into real protection. The UAE’s swift and generous support for our 2026 plan sends a powerful message, prioritizing those who need it most. We must provide an effective, innovative response to meet the moment.”

Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO Director-General, remarked, “Signs of health system collapse appear well before it happens—outbreaks spread, malnutrition rises, and preventable deaths increase. Yet, united efforts can restore services and save lives. I thank His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and the UAE for their support, which will deliver critical humanitarian health care to millions in need.”

This aid strengthens the strategic partnership between the UAE and the UN humanitarian system, reaffirming the UAE’s key role in tackling pressing humanitarian challenges, boosting the international community’s capacity to save lives, and supporting stability in crisis-hit areas, aligning with His Highness’s directives that enhance the UAE’s leadership in global humanitarian action.
