On Sunday, Pakistani missions in the UAE announced the postponement of all Independence Day events in the Emirates to show solidarity with the flood victims in Pakistan, according to Faisal Niaz Tirmizi, Pakistan’s ambassador to the UAE.

He expressed profound sorrow and extended heartfelt condolences for the tragic loss of lives and extensive destruction caused by the floods in various regions of Pakistan, including Buner, Bajaur, Shangla, Mansehra, as well as parts of Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.

The monsoon-triggered floods have claimed at least 344 lives across Pakistan’s northern areas. Additionally, a helicopter crash in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, due to adverse weather, resulted in the deaths of five people, including two pilots, during a relief mission. Landslides and flash floods are frequent in the monsoon season, which spans from June to September.

Earlier on Sunday, UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan offered condolences to Pakistan for the tragic loss of lives in the flash floods.

“We in the UAE stand with the people of Pakistan during this challenging time and pray for the quick recovery of all injured,” said the UAE President.

Ambassador Tirmizi urged the Pakistani community in the UAE to support their fellow countrymen during this difficult period, share their grief, and provide any assistance possible to those affected.

“May Allah Almighty grant eternal peace to the departed souls and strength and patience to the grieving families,” said Ambassador Tirmizi.

On August 10, the Pakistani community in the UAE celebrated one of the largest Independence Day events at Expo City Dubai, with over 60,000 attendees enjoying the day-long festivities.

Many Pakistani community members were planning the 79th Independence Day celebrations across Dubai, Sharjah, and other emirates. In a show of solidarity with the victims and their families, Ambassador Tirmizi announced the cancellation of these celebrations.
