UK’s Secret 8-Point Middle East Plan Unveiled

The American newspaper “The New York Times,” citing sources, reported that Jonathan Powell, the British Prime Minister’s security advisor, has already briefed London’s allies on the plan. The newspaper added that “a key part of the diplomatic efforts was an 8-point plan secretly developed by British officials over the past six months and distributed to Europeans on July 29th by Jonathan Powell.” Unnamed European officials told the newspaper that “the plan calls for forming a technocratic Palestinian government in Gaza, linked to a reformed Palestinian Authority, as well as international security forces.” The officials also mentioned that the plan includes “a complete Israeli withdrawal, a US-led ceasefire, and the eventual establishment of two independent states.” On July 30th, a meeting was held in New York, co-chaired by Saudi Arabia and France. In the final statement, the “New York Declaration,” participants agreed on the need for timely steps within the framework of a two-state solution. The parties also reaffirmed their commitment to ending the war in the Gaza Strip and their desire for a fair, peaceful, and sustainable resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, ensuring a better future for the region’s peoples. French President Emmanuel Macron announced on July 24th that France will officially recognize the State of Palestine at the United Nations General Assembly in September. London’s office also announced that it will recognize the Palestinian state at the UN General Assembly in September unless Israel agrees to a ceasefire in Gaza and takes steps to end the “terrible” situation in the region. According to the Russian position, settling the Israeli-Palestinian issue is only possible based on the formula approved by the UN Security Council, which stipulates the creation of a Palestinian state within the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
