The Syrian news agency (SANA) reported on Wednesday evening that the media department of the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated, “On the occasion of the first anniversary of Syria’s liberation, a delegation from the UN Security Council will visit the capital, Damascus.” The ministry explained in its statement that “the visit of the Security Council delegation is a confirmation of the international community’s support for the new Syria and its solidarity in the phase of reconstruction, sovereignty consolidation, and stability.” The Syrian ministry pointed out that “the UN Security Council delegation represents all council members, marking a consensus for the first time in 14 years on Syrian matters.” The agency quoted an official source saying, “This visit comes amid increasing international recognition of its unity and its ability to lead the national recovery process independently, contributing to the rebuilding of Syrians’ trust in the Security Council after years of suffering from the crimes of the previous regime.” Slovenia’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Samuel Žbogar, whose country holds the presidency of the Security Council this month, clarified that “the scheduled visit to Syria aims to send a message of support to the country,” expressing hope that “this visit will strengthen Syrians’ confidence in the United Nations.”
