The UN agency reported in a statement that partners working to support displacement sites have reported “horrific” humanitarian consequences resulting from the escalation of hostilities in Gaza City, where many displaced persons who previously fled from the northern sector reside. It explained that many families face difficulties in relocating due to high costs and the absence of safe places to seek refuge, with severe impacts on the elderly and people with disabilities.
The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) warned on Thursday of the urgent need to provide shelter materials such as mattresses, blankets, and tents for the residents of Gaza. UNRWA called for immediate lifting of restrictions to enable the distribution of ready-to-deliver aid, emphasizing the urgent need for intervention to meet the escalating humanitarian needs in Gaza.
It is noted that the control plan for the city includes the forcible displacement of about one million Palestinians to the southern sector, which has led to widespread international criticism of Israel, which continues its preparations to implement the plan despite all warnings.
Residents of the Gaza Strip are suffering from unprecedented levels of hunger, with UN organizations warning of the spread of famine and rising deaths due to malnutrition, especially among children, the sick, and people with disabilities.
From October 7, 2023, to August 21, 2025, the war on Gaza has resulted in the deaths of about 62,000 Palestinians and approximately 157,000 injured, according to data from the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza.
Meanwhile, Russian presidential spokesperson Dmitry Peskov expressed Moscow’s concern over the escalation of the situation in the Gaza Strip and the resulting civilian casualties, affirming that Moscow is closely monitoring the situation and looks forward to a return to the path of peace.
