In his speech at the New York 2 conference at the United Nations headquarters, Guterres explained that “the two-state solution aligns with international law and has the support of the international community and the General Assembly,” adding, “We must renew our commitment to the two-state solution before it is too late.” The UN Secretary-General emphasized that “establishing a state for the Palestinians is not a reward but a right,” noting that “the two-state solution aligns with international law and has the support of the international community and the General Assembly.” He called for an “immediate and permanent ceasefire in the Gaza Strip,” stressing that “there is no justification for what is happening in the West Bank and the continued establishment of settlements there.” Guterres added that “the city of Jerusalem should become the capital of both the Palestinian and Israeli states,” emphasizing that those who obstruct the path of the two-state solution must answer a fundamental question: what is the alternative?

Earlier today, French President Emmanuel Macron confirmed that his country “is doing everything it can to preserve the possibility of achieving the two-state solution.” Macron, in his speech at the “New York 2” conference at the United Nations, stated that “in loyalty to his country’s historical commitment in the Middle East,” noting that Israelis and Palestinians live in isolation.

The governments of Britain, Canada, Australia, and Portugal announced yesterday, Sunday, their recognition of the State of Palestine, a day before the conference to be held on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly meetings regarding the peaceful settlement of the Palestinian issue and the implementation of the two-state solution.

The “New York Declaration” was adopted by the UN General Assembly with 142 votes in favor, 10 votes against, and 12 abstentions. The declaration, which supports the two-state solution and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, is the result of an international conference hosted by the United Nations and organized by Saudi Arabia and France last July to discuss the ongoing decades-long conflict.

It is worth noting that the two-state solution is a political proposal aimed at resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict by establishing two independent states: a Palestinian state along the June 4, 1967 borders alongside the state of Israel, which aligns with the vision of the international community.
