Over 133 Emirati tribes will participate in the Union Parade at the Sheikh Zayed Festival in Al Wathba, Abu Dhabi, on December 4, celebrating the UAE’s 54th National Day. This event showcases the deep love, loyalty, and appreciation the people of the UAE feel for their nation and leaders.
What is the Union Parade?
This national event gathers the largest assembly of tribes in one location. Tribespeople from across the UAE march, waving the UAE flag and singing traditional folk songs, symbolizing their unity, cohesion, and national fabric. They express loyalty to UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and the nation’s leadership.
Growing Participation
Officials from the Presidential Court informed Khaleej Times that the number of participating tribes increases every year, highlighting the parade’s success and community significance. “Every year, we welcome new participants and even greater enthusiasm,” they mentioned.

According to Al Bayan, 120 tribes joined the 51st National Day celebrations, with over 10,000 attendees. In comparison, 133 tribes took part in the 53rd National Day festivities.
This year’s parade will introduce new elements, including traditional performances, folk displays, and youth-led showcases reflecting both the past and present in a unified spirit, with more refined and precise organization than ever before.
The Union Parade aims to reinforce the spirit of the Union, enhance loyalty and belonging to the homeland, and convey that the people of the UAE, from all tribes, stand united under the Union’s banner and leadership. It also seeks to display the cohesion of Emirati society and the strength of its social fabric to the world.
Previously, the Presidential Court announced that the Union Parade, featuring tribespeople, would celebrate the UAE’s 54th National Day at the Sheikh Zayed Festival site in Al Wathba on December 4, reflecting the people’s pride, love, and loyalty to the nation and its leadership.
Organizing the Parade
Officials stated that coordination starts early with tribal elders and representatives. Each tribe has its coordinator, and cooperation levels are consistently strong.
The parade plays a crucial role in strengthening national identity, uniting all generations, and connecting them to their heritage and history. It deeply instills the meaning of the Union in practice, not just in words.
A large turnout is anticipated this year, both in participants and spectators, with artistic and heritage performances representing the UAE’s diverse environments — sea, desert, and mountains.
The Presidential Court’s role in organizing the event includes full oversight of planning, coordination, and follow-up from preparation to the parade’s conclusion. This encompasses security and management of all tribal segments, ensuring the parade presents an image worthy of the UAE’s name.
Coordination with tribes is managed through advance meetings and detailed plans for procession routes, entry and exit timings, and close cooperation with security and organizational authorities to guarantee a safe and well-organized parade.
Additional initiatives promote heritage awareness, such as educating the public about traditional customs, preserving folk practices, and engaging youth in activities to learn about and take pride in their history.
