At the beginning of this year, the United States experienced a sharp increase in egg prices due to the outbreak of avian influenza, which prompted it to expand its imports to stabilize the market. Although prices have been decreasing for several months, they remained 16.4% higher in July compared to the same period last year. Meanwhile, Russia has significantly increased its egg production this year, yet it faces a decline in domestic prices, with the average price of ten eggs in July at 83.2 rubles, the lowest since the summer of 2023. The Russian Ministry of Agriculture confirmed that farmers are sometimes forced to sell below production costs. It is noteworthy that the United States did not limit its imports to Russia; it also began importing eggs from Saudi Arabia in July, valued at $518,000. Overall, in the same month, the United States imported poultry eggs worth $16.5 million. Brazil was the leading supplier ($8.8 million), followed by Mexico ($3.9 million) and then India ($933,000).
