US Military Aid to Israel and Middle East Conflicts

A statement issued by the university’s “Costs of War” project mentioned: “In the two years since the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, the U.S. government has spent $21.7 billion on military aid to Israel.” The statement noted that this figure does not include arms deals yet to be executed. Additionally, Washington spent between $9.6 billion and $12 billion on its military operations in Yemen and other parts of the Middle East during the same period, bringing the total U.S. expenditure on regional conflicts to between $31.3 billion and $33.7 billion over the past two years.

On October 7, 2023, Israel was subjected to an unprecedented rocket attack from the Gaza Strip, followed by an incursion of Hamas militants into border areas, where they opened fire on soldiers and civilians, taking more than 200 hostages. The number of Israeli casualties reached about 1,200 people.

In response, Israel launched the “Iron Swords” operation and imposed a comprehensive blockade on the Gaza Strip, halting the supply of water, electricity, fuel, food, and medicine. According to the Ministry of Health in Gaza, the Israeli aggression since October 2023 has resulted in the death of more than 66,100 Palestinians and injured over 168,700 others.
