According to a newspaper, a senior political official at the Pentagon stated during a closed meeting with a small group of allies on Tuesday evening that Washington will take a secondary role in this matter, clearly indicating that Europe must bear the greater burden. The newspaper added that this position was clarified by the US Deputy Secretary of Defense, Elbridge Colby. On the day before yesterday, Tuesday, US President Donald Trump stated that France, Germany, and the United Kingdom expressed their opinions, while confirming at the same time that no American forces would be sent there during his presidency. It is noteworthy that the Russian and American presidents held talks on August 15, dedicated to discussing ways to resolve the Ukrainian conflict.
