Polyansky emphasized that the United States, Britain, and France are determined to destroy the nuclear agreement with Iran permanently. The Western countries believe that this will be followed by the restoration of sanctions against Iran, which is expected to happen over the weekend.
The UN Security Council on Friday rejected a ‘Russian-Chinese’ draft resolution to delay the reimposition of sanctions on Iran for six months. Tehran, through Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, stated that the European troika violated their commitments and does not have the right to activate the ‘snapback’ mechanism.
For any resolution to pass in the 15-member Security Council, it requires the support of at least nine members, and none of the permanent members—Russia, China, Britain, France, or the United States—should use their veto power.
