In recent years, a significant shift has occurred in business ownership across the UAE, with an increasing number of women registering companies in their names and entering industries traditionally dominated by men. This change is evident in trade license records and boardrooms, where women are leading retail brands, healthcare companies, and tech startups seeking funding.
Charlie Patel, the founder of Decisive Zone, observes this transformation from his perspective, assisting with jurisdiction selection, company structuring, bank account setup, tax registration, visa procurement, and office space acquisition. “More women are moving beyond small-scale ventures to establish businesses with growth ambitions,” he notes. “It’s about longevity, not just starting up.”
Industry insiders report that women-owned companies now exceed ten percent in the private sector, with expectations for continued growth. This trend is partly driven by regulatory support, allowing women in the UAE to establish and run businesses with the same rights and protections as other owners. The straightforward licensing process, compared to neighboring regions, and initiatives like the long-term Golden Visa further bolster confidence for long-term planning and attracting international investors.
However, starting a business is just the beginning. Patel indicates that many of his female clients seek ongoing assistance with sponsorship agreements, permit renewals, and compliance to prevent expansion delays. “Missing these elements can hinder growth,” he explains.
This trend is also reflected within Decisive Zone, where women manage several complex client accounts, chosen for their expertise. Patel emphasizes that these roles were earned naturally, based on merit.
Industry experts anticipate the growth of women-led firms to continue, citing supportive policies, market needs, and successful examples as driving forces. As one adviser noted, the environment is conducive, the role models are apparent, and momentum is building.
