World Leaders in Sharm El-Sheikh for Ceasefire Accord

A number of world leaders and heads of state arrived in the city of Sharm El-Sheikh today, where they were received by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi. Saudi security expert Brigadier General Abdullah Al-Shaya stated that the presence of leaders from around the world in Sharm El-Sheikh to sign the ceasefire agreement reflects the significance of the event and the deep wounds caused by Israeli crimes in Gaza, which occurred in front of the world under international silence for nearly two years.

In a conversation with ‘Sputnik,’ he added that in recent months, for various reasons, the United States, represented by President Trump, began political movements by presenting his plan, which, in my opinion, would not have been implemented at this time without the rising global anger and the recognition of the State of Palestine by more than 155 countries, in addition to American popular movements evident in universities and other institutions.

He continued, saying that turning the agreement into an ‘international treaty,’ with the presence of this number of leaders, grants it stronger legitimacy and places the ‘Israeli entity’ under a clear international commitment. It also puts political pressure on the United States, whether President Trump realizes it or not, to push Israel towards accepting the Arab initiative led by Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and other Arab countries.

According to the Saudi expert, the security dimensions of the agreement are represented in several points, the most important being: What does Pakistan’s presence mean? Moroccan political expert Ali Al-Sarhani said Pakistan’s presence is related to it being the only Islamic country with nuclear weapons and its good relations with Trump concerning peace efforts between it and India.

He continued, saying, ‘For me, this is the beginning of a peace path, which will be very important, especially through the participation of many countries to be part of the calming process in the region.’

The summit aims to finalize the ceasefire agreement in Gaza and enhance international efforts to end the war that claimed tens of thousands of lives since October 2023, with the participation of leaders from more than 20 countries. This summit could change the course of the Middle East by rebuilding Gaza and strengthening regional stability.

It is scheduled to be held at 4:30 PM Egyptian time, following the arrival of US President Donald Trump at 1:45 PM Egyptian time, and his plane’s landing at Sharm El-Sheikh International Airport.

Potential Impact: Changing the Middle East’s Trajectory. This summit might be a ‘unique historical event,’ as described by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, as it opens the door to stabilizing Gaza and expanding regional peace. However, the challenge remains in implementing the agreement, especially with Iran’s rejection and the absence of Israel and ‘Hamas.’ If successful, it will enhance Egypt’s role as a key mediator and accelerate Gaza’s reconstruction, shifting the region towards lasting peace.
