The investigation into the death of Assamese music legend Zubeen Garg is becoming increasingly complex. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) has discovered a financial transfer of Rs 10 million (Dh4,13,980) in the accounts of the singer’s two personal security officers, as reported by Times of India.

“The financial transaction is under thorough examination,” a source informed the Indian publication.

Assam’s Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that the state government has approached the Enforcement Directorate and the Income Tax department to explore the financial aspects of the case.

The 52-year-old singer passed away on September 19 after a drowning incident in Singapore, where he was scheduled to perform at the North East India Festival. His body was initially brought to Delhi and then to Guwahati, where his last rites were held with a large turnout of fans and friends.

The state CID is currently investigating Garg’s death after over 60 FIRs were filed statewide against Shyamkanu Mahanta, the chief organiser of the Northeast India Festival, along with nearly 10 others, including the singer’s manager Siddharth Sharma and band members Shekhar Jyoti Goswami and Amrit Prabha, according to PTI.

Additionally, Goswami has accused Sharma and Mahanta of poisoning Garg in Singapore.

Sharma and Mahanta have been detained on charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder, criminal conspiracy, and causing death by negligence, as per Indian media reports. Goswami and Amrit Prabha have also been arrested.

Furthermore, Singapore-based NRI Rup Kamal Kalita, who was on the yacht when Garg died, has joined the investigation and will be questioned at the CID headquarters in Guwahati.
