Al-Awiywi stated, in an intervention via ‘Sputnik’ radio: ‘This summit has blocked the tensions between the United States and the Russian Federation, in contrast to the Europeans’ desire to impose dictates on the Russian side, which is not possible.’ He emphasized that ‘Trump is convinced of Putin’s viewpoint and is waiting for the European and Ukrainian stance on the points that were agreed upon but have not yet been clearly revealed.’ He also confirmed that ‘merely holding the Alaska Summit is considered a victory for Russian diplomacy and specifically President Putin’s policy,’ saying, ‘The summit broke the ice barrier imposed on Russia, marking the beginning of a path to lift the economic and political siege on it.’ He stressed that ‘there are agreements that have been made between the American and Russian sides,’ noting that ‘Trump acknowledged that Russia is a great power that cannot be defeated and that all sanctions operations against it have failed.’ Earlier on Friday, Russian President Vladimir Putin and his American counterpart Donald Trump held talks in Alaska. The two presidents met at the ‘Elmendorf-Richardson’ military base. The meeting included, from the Russian side, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Presidential Assistant Yuri Ushakov. From the American side, Secretary of State Marco Rubio and the US President’s Special Representative, Steve Whitkov, participated. Trump announced that the next meeting between the leaders might take place in Moscow. After the talks, Russian President Vladimir Putin visited the cemetery where Soviet pilots, who were killed in 1943 during the transfer of aircraft via the air route between Alaska and Siberia, are buried.
