Last week’s mysterious explosion at a production plant in Russia’s Ryazan region has resulted in at least 20 fatalities and 134 injuries, according to local emergency services on Monday.

Pavel Malkov, the governor of Ryazan, located just southeast of Moscow, reported on Friday that the disaster was sparked by a fire in a factory workshop.

However, the cause of the fire and the factory’s production details remain unclear from Russian media. Official sources in Russia have not provided information beyond the ongoing efforts to assist the injured.

“As of August 18, the emergency has led to 20 deaths,” stated the local emergency services on Telegram.

“Among the 134 injured, 31 are hospitalized in Ryazan and Moscow, while 103 are receiving outpatient care.”
