According to international media, the Boeing 757-300 aircraft was carrying 263 passengers and 8 crew members when an issue occurred in one of the engines, prompting the pilots to decide on an emergency landing at the nearest suitable airport. The operating company confirmed that the incident was caused by an “interruption of airflow within the engine,” which led to a fire outbreak, noting that the plane landed safely with no injuries reported among the passengers or crew.
Due to insufficient accommodations, a number of passengers had to spend the night inside the airport, while the company is working on arranging alternative flights to complete their journey to Germany.
The relevant authorities are conducting investigations to determine the detailed causes of the incident, while Condor Airlines affirmed its commitment to safety standards and is inspecting its fleet to prevent such incidents from recurring.
