Footage circulating on social media shows the initial moments of the bridge collapse, amidst panic among nearby citizens. In this context, a source in the Civil Defense Directorate reported that their teams are currently present at the bridge collapse site and are continuing to remove debris in search of those trapped underneath. Later, a security source reported five injuries according to initial information.
Meanwhile, the Governor of Karbala stated: “Field efforts continue to rescue the two vehicles that were involved in the collapse of the Husayniyah flyover due to the bending of one of the beams during the concrete pouring process, which led to one of the spans overturning as they are interconnected.”
He added: “During the incident, the two vehicles happened to be passing under the bridge, where Civil Defense teams managed to extract the driver of the first vehicle, and work is ongoing to extract the second vehicle. All workers and staff have been safely evacuated at the intersection of Husayniyah on Baghdad Street.”
