During the 2025 American Society of Clinical Oncology Conference, researchers from the ‘Inova Schar’ Cancer Institute revealed concerning findings in this regard, according to ‘Medical Express’. Among 100 athletes aged between 35 and 50, it was found that 15% have advanced adenomas, which may later develop into colon cancer, while 41% had at least one adenoma. Although the study has not yet been published in a peer-reviewed scientific journal and is considered limited in scope, it has prompted researchers to urge athletes to exercise caution without jumping to conclusions. In the context of rising colon cancer rates among young people, which doctors refer to as the ‘new epidemic’, the causes of this increase remain unclear. These findings are an initial step requiring deeper research to understand the relationship between intensive sports and cancer risks, calling for a balance between the health benefits of sports and vigilance against any potential risks.
