Controversial Law Sparks Debate on Freedoms

In his conversation with Sputnik, he pointed out that the law will spark a lot of controversy, especially at the international and regional levels, amid claims of freedom. He warned of the dangers of this law, emphasizing that it imposes a form of restriction that will be imposed on freedoms, particularly in relation to the exchange of messages and information, especially among certain bodies and institutions.

Gabashi believes that the law does not target individuals and French citizens in general, but rather other institutions and bodies, in an attempt to uncover the methods these institutions use, the parties they communicate with domestically and internationally, and the content of this communication.

The founder of Telegram, Pavel Durov, stated last month that Moldovan authorities, through French intelligence, asked him to delete a number of channels before the 2024 presidential elections in the republic. Durov said, “About a year ago, when I was stuck, the French special services contacted me through an intermediary to request the Moldovan government’s assistance in censoring certain Telegram channels before the presidential elections in Moldova.”

He continued, “This was unacceptable for several reasons. If the agency had actually contacted a judge, it would have been an attempt to interfere in the judicial process, and if they hadn’t, and merely claimed they did, they were exploiting my legal position in France to influence political events in Eastern Europe—a pattern we’ve also observed in Romania.”

The only common factor among them was “their expression of political stances unacceptable to the French and Moldovan governments.” He explained, saying, “We refused this request.” He affirmed that “Telegram is committed and will not delete any content for political reasons,” adding, “I will continue to expose any attempt to pressure Telegram to impose censorship on our platform.”
