The DP World Tour has introduced a significant new honor: the Rory McIlroy Award. This accolade celebrates the DP World Tour member with the best overall performance across the four Major Championships each season.

Unveiled at the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai, the award honors McIlroy’s historic achievement earlier this year as the first European golfer to complete the Career Grand Slam. This rare accomplishment was previously reached only by Gene Sarazen, Ben Hogan, Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus, and Tiger Woods.

From the 2026 season, the award will be given to the player accumulating the most Race to Dubai points during the four Majors: the Masters, US PGA Championship, US Open, and The Open.

McIlroy’s victory at the Masters in Augusta, Georgia, in April, secured in an intense playoff against Ryder Cup teammate Justin Rose, completed his collection, which also includes the 2011 US Open, PGA Championship wins in 2012 and 2014, and the Claret Jug from his 2014 Open Championship triumph.

The 36-year-old Northern Irishman is currently in Dubai, vying for a seventh Race to Dubai title, adding significance to the announcement.

Tour holds special meaning

“This means a lot to me as the DP World Tour is where I began my career,” McIlroy shared. “I’ve always enjoyed playing here and representing Europe and the Tour in the Ryder Cup.

“Having something named after me that future generations will receive is a great honor and very humbling.

“I’m incredibly proud to be the first European to achieve the Career Grand Slam. The Majors are the pinnacle of our sport, and I hope my achievements inspire other DP World Tour members to pursue and realize their dreams,” McIlroy added.

“I look forward to seeing who receives this award first in 2026. Presenting the trophy will be another proud moment for me.”

Honoring a historic achievement

DP World Tour Chief Executive Guy Kinnings stated that the award reflects McIlroy’s remarkable contribution to the sport and the Tour.

“While Rory will achieve much more in his career, we wanted to commemorate his historic feat as the first European to complete the Career Grand Slam,” Kinnings said.

“This new award will be a lasting legacy to inspire future DP World Tour members aiming to follow in Rory’s footsteps on the biggest golf stages.

“Rory has already greatly contributed to our Tour and golf worldwide,” he added. “He is a fantastic ambassador for global golf, and we’re thrilled to unveil The Rory McIlroy Award in his honor.”

This new award joins prestigious honors named after iconic European golfers. The DP World Tour also presents the Seve Ballesteros Award (Players’ Player of the Year), the Harry Vardon Trophy (Race to Dubai champion), the Sir Henry Cotton Award (Rookie of the Year), and the John Jacobs Trophy (Legends Tour Order of Merit).

McIlroy himself will be ineligible to win the award, ensuring it remains for players aspiring to match his accomplishments on golf’s grandest platforms.
