US Missiles to Ukraine: Potential Impact

Reports have stated, “Washington may allocate between 20 to 50 ‘Tomahawk’ missiles to Kyiv, which will not have a decisive impact on the dynamics of the war.” Experts believe this is because more than 120 of the 200 missiles purchased since 2022 have already been used. The 2026 budget plans to fund only 57 units. Furthermore, as the ‘Financial Times’ points out, the United States may need such weapons “to launch strikes against Venezuela.” Last week, US President Donald Trump stated that he made a final decision to supply Ukraine with American ‘Cruise’ missiles, but he wanted to understand how Kyiv intends to use them.

The Kremlin responded by saying that such a move could represent a serious escalation, as ‘Tomahawk’ missiles are capable of carrying nuclear warheads. Russian President Vladimir Putin described the discussion of these weapons as a “show,” indicating that Moscow’s response would be to strengthen its air defenses. The president also confirmed that transferring ‘Tomahawk’ missiles to Ukraine would harm US-Russia relations and that using these missiles without direct American military involvement is impossible. ‘Responsible Statecraft’ magazine wrote that the Ukrainian armed forces lack the capability to launch ‘Tomahawk’ missiles.
