This came during President El-Sisi’s meeting with the Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, on Monday, as reported by ‘Cairo News.’ According to the Egyptian presidential spokesperson, the meeting affirmed the utmost importance that Egypt and Qatar attach to achieving a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, in coordination with the United States of America.
Both sides also emphasized the urgency of allowing the immediate and unhindered entry of humanitarian aid and the release of hostages and prisoners. Cairo and Doha strongly rejected the reoccupation of the Gaza Strip and any attempts from their territories, stressing that ‘establishing an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions, is the only way to achieve lasting peace and stability in the Middle East.’
From October 7, 2023, until the current date of August 17, the war on Gaza has resulted in the deaths of about 62,000 Palestinians and approximately 156,000 injuries, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza.
