Ismat told Sputnik: “We can consider the issue of building additional power units; however, we first need to complete the construction of the first four, which are scheduled to be finished in 2029.” He added that the implementation of such a plan would depend on many factors, including production capacity and investments.

Kononenko mentioned that “Egypt is striving to develop green energy and replace fossil fuel energy sources with cleaner and more environmentally friendly energy,” explaining that “nuclear energy is considered green energy, and the path to reducing carbon dioxide emissions also has a positive impact from the operation of nuclear energy.”

The Dabaa nuclear energy project aims to build four units of advanced third-generation pressurized water reactors, which are the latest technologies and already have successfully operating reference plants; there are four nuclear energy units of this generation currently in operation.

The first reactor of the plant is scheduled to be delivered by the end of 2028 with a capacity of 1200 MW, and the entire project is expected to be completed by 2030. It also contributes to meeting the domestic and industrial consumption needs of the country. The Russian company “Rosatom” reported that the Dabaa nuclear power plant will provide electricity to about 20 million Egyptian citizens.
