The two leaders discussed, according to the Turkish Communications Directorate, bilateral relations between Turkey, as well as regional and international issues, according to the Anadolu Agency. Erdogan highlighted the “important steps taken during this year’s UN General Assembly to support the two-state solution in Palestine.” Last Tuesday, Erdogan stated that “Israel intentionally killed 250 journalists in the sector,” affirming that what is happening in Gaza is a “genocide” that has been ongoing for more than 700 days.
Erdogan said during his speech at the UN General Assembly: “I regret the absence of the President of the State of Palestine (Mahmoud Abbas) from this meeting, and I call on all countries that have not yet recognized the State of Palestine to do so.” He added: “The Palestinian people in Gaza are not only being killed by weapons but also by starvation, and there is no logic that justifies Israel’s brutality in the Gaza Strip. Israel is displacing the people of Gaza from one place to another.”
Erdogan continued, saying: “Israel targets hospitals in Gaza, and there are no medicines in the sector, and we cannot remain silent about what is happening in Gaza, which are among the darkest moments of humanity.” He added: “The ongoing genocide in Gaza is being broadcast live, intentionally killing 250 journalists, and the United Nations has been unable to protect its staff in Gaza, which is unfortunate. Gaza is being destroyed under the pretext of ‘Hamas,’ but innocent civilians are also being killed in the West Bank.”
Israel continues its war on the Gaza Strip since October 2023, a war that has resulted in about 64,000 Palestinian deaths and about 163,000 injuries. It also conducts repeated airstrikes on several countries in the region, most notably Lebanon, Yemen, Syria, and Qatar, in addition to its war on Iran, which lasted 12 days.
