Mohammed Ben Sulayem, President of the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), is set to meet Paraguayan President Santiago Peña to discuss global motorsport and mobility topics during the forthcoming FIA American Congress in Asunción next week.
Opening officially on Monday, August 25, by President Peña, the congress gathers mobility and motorsport leaders from the Americas to evaluate initiatives in road safety, sustainable mobility, regional sports growth, and transport innovation.
The event, hosted by the Touring y Automóvil Club Paraguayo (TACPy), spans three days and marks a historic milestone for Paraguayan motorsport as the country joins the FIA World Rally Championship calendar with the WRC Rally del Paraguay in the Itapúa region from August 28-31.
FIA President Ben Sulayem expressed his anticipation for the Paraguay visit, stating: “I am thrilled to join our members and partners in Asunción for the FIA American Congress 2025 and look forward to meeting President Peña to discuss our collaborative efforts in enhancing global motorsport participation and promoting safe, accessible mobility.
“This conference is a crucial platform to bolster cooperation across the Americas, exchange expertise in mobility and motorsport, and advance our mutual goals of safety, sustainability, and innovation.
“Having the congress coincide with Paraguay’s debut on the FIA World Rally Championship calendar signifies a historic moment for both the nation and the region as we continue to grow global motorsport, inspire fans worldwide, and attract new audiences to the rally scene.”
This year’s FIA American Congress theme is ‘Safe Mobility and Motorsport in the Americas,’ focusing on four areas: road safety and traffic education, innovation and new technologies in mobility, global motorsport growth, and the role of automobile clubs in social change.
The event features sessions aimed at equipping Member Clubs with strategies and insights into evolving mobility and sporting trends, offering a chance to exchange knowledge and best practices on topics like service delivery, sustainable responsibility, and consumer-focused innovation.
The FIA’s Member Club structure, as the global authority for motorsport and the federation for mobility organizations worldwide, serves as the foundation for its governance and operations.
