According to the study published in the “Times of India” magazine, this disease includes common types such as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and psoriatic arthritis. Although there is no definitive cure, diet can play a pivotal role in alleviating symptoms, along with medication and physical therapy. The study published in the “Times of India” mentions eight foods rich in Omega-3 fatty acids and antioxidants that help treat arthritis. These include salmon, tuna, sardines, and mackerel, which are rich in anti-inflammatory proteins that reduce joint stiffness and pain, especially in rheumatoid patients. These foods are also rich in fiber and protein, helping lower C-reactive protein (CRP) levels associated with inflammation. They are a healthy alternative to meat and support heart health and blood sugar stabilization.
Almonds, flaxseeds, and chia seeds are sources of healthy fats, Omega-3, and minerals that support bone strength and reduce inflammation. Due to their high-calorie content, it is advised to consume them in small amounts. Berries and strawberries provide antioxidants that repair cell damage. Leafy greens like spinach and broccoli are rich in vitamin K and calcium. Citrus fruits like oranges and lemons provide vitamin C necessary for collagen production, containing natural compounds that ease joint pain and stiffness.
Foods such as oats and quinoa lower CRP levels and maintain blood sugar stability. They contain properties that protect cartilage from erosion and aid joint flexibility. The study concluded that, contrary to foods that help treat arthritis, there are foods that exacerbate inflammation and worsen symptoms, the most notable being fried foods, processed foods high in sugars, red and processed meats, full-fat dairy products, trans fats, tobacco, and refined carbohydrates.
