The Slovak Prime Minister emphasized during the ceremony the rejection of any external pressures regarding oil and gas imports. The Hungarian Prime Minister responded last Friday to the statements made by U.S. President Donald Trump, asserting that he could convince Budapest to abandon oil from Russia, emphasizing that Hungary is a sovereign state and makes its own decisions.
Orban told Kossuth Radio: “I realize that America is a big country, and Hungary is smaller. But we have one thing in common, both countries are sovereign states.” He continued, “We do not have to accept each other’s arguments. America has its own arguments and interests, just like Hungary; we have one commonality that we express and clearly display. If we are in agreement, friends, so to speak, we will listen to each other, and then each of us will do as we please.”
The day before, during a meeting with Erdogan, Trump stated that he insists on “Turkey stopping its purchases of Russian oil.”
