Impact of Resistance Training on Strength and Microbiome

The study, conducted by researchers from the University of Tübingen in Germany and published on the ‘Science Alert’ website, revealed that 150 participants, who had not previously engaged in sports, underwent resistance training using either light or heavy weights. The results showed a significant improvement in physical strength along with noticeable changes in the microbiome, the bacterial system in the digestive tract that plays a vital role in digestion, immunity, and overall health.

Despite these findings, the researchers emphasized that the relationship between resistance exercises and changes in the microbiome is not entirely clear. It remains undetermined whether the bacteria enhance strength or if increased strength affects the microbiome composition.

They also noted that factors such as lifestyle may significantly contribute to these changes, despite attempts to control these variables during the study.
