Iraq has prohibited the use of the US-based user-generated game platform Roblox, citing concerns about child safety, aligning with other nations curbing virtual environments.
The government announced on Sunday that the decision was driven by fears that the game facilitates direct user communication, potentially exposing children and teens to exploitation or cyber extortion, and that it contains content “incompatible with cultural values and traditions.”
Roblox Corp, the company behind the platform for creating online games and user-generated content, has yet to comment on the ban. Previously, they stated they “respect the laws and regulations of the countries they operate in and share the commitment of local lawmakers to child protection.”

The Iraqi communications ministry explained that the nationwide ban resulted from an extensive study and field observations, revealing that “the game poses multiple security, social, and behavioral threats.”
This action places Iraq among several Middle Eastern countries that are tightening regulations on online gaming and interactive platforms due to child safety and moral issues. In August 2024, Turkey also blocked access to Roblox, citing similar child safety concerns.
