Israeli airstrikes targeted Yemen’s capital Sanaa on Sunday, according to Houthi-operated al-Masirah TV, following a missile launch towards Israel by Houthi forces two days prior.

Residents in Sanaa reported that the strikes hit areas near the presidential palace, missile facilities, and key oil and power stations. The Israeli military has not yet made any comments.

A Houthi security source informed AFP that the airstrike focused on a municipal building in central Sanaa, with reports of casualties emerging.

Al-Masirah TV reported, “The Israeli attack targeted an oil company station on Al-Sittine Street with multiple strikes,” and also hit a “power station” in the southern part of the capital, which had been attacked the previous Sunday.

On Friday, the Houthis announced they launched a ballistic missile towards Israel. An Israeli Air Force official stated on Sunday that the missile likely contained several sub-munitions designed to detonate upon impact.

“This is the first instance of such a missile being launched from Yemen,” the official noted.

Since the onset of Israel’s conflict with the Palestinian group Hamas in Gaza in October 2023, the Iran-backed Houthis have attacked ships in the Red Sea, claiming these actions as support for Palestinians.

They have also routinely fired missiles at Israel, most of which have been intercepted. Israel has retaliated with strikes on Houthi-held areas, including the strategic Hodeidah port.
