He clarified in a statement to “”, that this is not to belittle the international organization, pointing out that the issue lies in the fact that the keys to the solution are not in the hands of the United Nations itself, but in the hands of the major powers that control its decisions and directions. Al-Takbali noted that if the United Nations does not issue a binding and decisive resolution, it will not be able to do anything real. He added: “The United Nations may come next time with a new government, but it will be built on fragile foundations, while remaining the actual controlling force in the scene.” The Libyan parliamentarian affirmed that what the Government of National Unity is doing is merely obstructing the United Nations’ efforts by attempting to impose control over Tripoli, in a clear message that it is the party holding the capital, and thus seeks to remain for as long as possible through engaging in new negotiation rounds. Al-Takbali stressed that the Libyan people will not achieve their aspirations as long as the United Nations and major countries continue to deal with armed actors and the faces dominating the scene, instead of heading towards the true national forces trusted by the Libyan street. He added: “Therefore, Libya will remain hostage to chaos unless this approach changes.” He also considered that building a true government will not be achieved until the dismantling of lawless militias and empowering the people to choose their representatives. He continued: “I am not an advocate for conducting, as it requires time and guarantees, but we must give the people a chance to rally around known national figures capable of leading Libya out of its crisis.”
