The survey, announced by the mission today, Sunday, according to a statement received by ” “, was conducted to invite Libyans to express their opinions on four political options proposed by the advisory committee composed of legal, political, and constitutional experts. The aim is to reach a formula that allows the formation of a legitimate democratic government to end the stalemate that has persisted for years.

The UN mission clarified that it will rely on the results of this survey, along with additional data from 3,881 people collected through phone calls, in-person consultations, and online interactions, to draft a new political roadmap. This roadmap will be officially announced during the briefing to the UN Security Council on August 21.

In her comment on this step, the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General, Hanna Tetteh, stated: “It was necessary to listen to as many opinions as possible from different segments of society.” She confirmed that the anticipated roadmap “will be a Libyan-led and owned political process,” aiming to facilitate a peaceful transition that considers the political and security realities in the country.

The survey results showed that 42 percent of participants believe the optimal solution is to conduct simultaneous presidential and legislative elections as soon as possible. This is the first proposal made by the advisory committee, considered the clearest way to break the political deadlock that has lasted for over a decade.

The fourth option from the committee came in second place with 23 percent of the votes. It states that existing institutions should be dissolved, and a dialogue forum should be held to select a new executive body, along with a constituent assembly of 60 members to approve a provisional constitution and establish electoral laws for the upcoming national elections.

All eyes are on what the UN mission will reveal to the Security Council next week, as it is regarded as a pivotal moment that may determine Libya’s course in the coming phase.
