In an interview with a Western media outlet, Macron stated: “I see an American president striving to promote peace, and this morning he confirmed from the UN podium his commitment to achieving peace, claiming that he contributed to the settlement of seven conflicts. However, the Nobel Peace Prize will only be possible if he succeeds in finding a solution to this conflict,” referring to the ongoing Israeli military operations in Gaza for nearly two years. He added that the establishment of the State of Palestine, which France recognized on Monday, will only be truly realized “when Israel recognizes it as a state.” He said: “The United Nations has immense potential, but it does not measure up even slightly to the required level,” noting that he is “in full form unlike the UN, and his achievements surpass what the organization has provided over the years.” Trump also described the United Nations as “an elevator stuck halfway,” pointing out that “its speeches are empty and do not end wars, and the process of building its headquarters was marred by corruption,” according to him. According to the American president, “No global leader other than him has achieved what he has in stopping wars,” noting that “the United Nations did not support him in those efforts.” The war on the Gaza Strip continues since October 2023, a conflict that has claimed the lives of about 64,000 Palestinians and injured approximately 163,000. It also conducts repeated airstrikes on several countries in the region, most notably Lebanon, Yemen, Syria, and Qatar, in addition to its war on Iran, which lasted 12 days.
