Maria Corina Machado, the Venezuelan opposition leader, will not attend the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony in Oslo on Wednesday, AFP reported via the Nobel Institute. Her daughter will accept the award on her behalf.
“She will not be at the event,” confirmed Nobel Institute spokesperson Erik Aasheim before the ceremony scheduled for 1pm (1200 GMT). At 58, Machado remains in hiding, and it was uncertain if she had departed Venezuela before the event.
