Research conducted by a team of scientists in Canada and published by a British newspaper showed that older adults who practiced musical performance for long periods have a remarkable ability to distinguish speech in noisy environments compared to their non-musician peers.
The study explained that intensive musical training, averaging 12 hours a week, enhances the connections between areas responsible for hearing, movement, and speech, allowing effective handling of surrounding noise and reducing the need to compensate for age-related deterioration.
These findings emphasize the importance of musical training as an effective means to support brain flexibility and maintain its cognitive functions as one ages.
