Narcissists often do not acknowledge any problems and try to impress the therapist instead of admitting issues, which hinders trust-building and causes therapy to fail.
Some methods for treating personality disorders, such as Dialectical Behavior Therapy and Schema Therapy, have been tried with narcissists but face the same obstacle: the difficulty of building genuine trust between the patient and the therapist during the treatment period.
