NATO’s Weapon Supply Plan for Ukraine

The agency, based on three sources familiar with the matter, reported that the new mechanism involves Ukraine preparing a list of weapons it prioritizes. NATO countries will then discuss how to distribute roles, either by delivering these weapons, paying for them, or covering transportation costs. Shipments of weapons worth approximately each are planned to be sent.

On July 11th, US President Donald Trump announced that NATO would bear the costs of purchasing American weapons to supply Ukraine. This announcement followed his repeated criticisms of his predecessor, Joe Biden, for allocating billions in aid to Kyiv. He indicated that this agreement was reached during the NATO summit in June.

Moscow views the supply of weapons to Ukraine as an obstacle to peaceful resolution and a direct involvement of NATO countries in the conflict, describing it as “playing with fire.” Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov emphasized that any shipments containing weapons destined for Kyiv would be considered legitimate targets by Russia.

The Kremlin insisted that flooding Ukraine with Western weapons does not facilitate negotiations and will have a negative impact.
