Moscow – The ‘Nepal News’ site quoted an unnamed lawyer as saying, ‘Negotiations are progressing, but the final decision has not yet been made.’ According to the site, the president agreed to nominate Karki after a personal meeting with her and consultations with experts. Meanwhile, Ram Chandra Poudel is seeking to avoid the dissolution of parliament, which is a prerequisite for appointing a prime minister from outside the House of Representatives. The site confirmed that the head of state is currently considering alternative options that would allow Karki to be appointed to this position.

Local media earlier reported talks to form a temporary government at the Nepalese army headquarters following Prime Minister Sharma Oli’s resignation amid widespread unrest. Clashes erupted between representatives of the ‘Generation Z’ movement who gathered outside the headquarters due to disagreements over candidates. Among the candidates, alongside the former Supreme Court president, were the mayor of Kathmandu, Balendra Shah, and the head of Dharan, Harka Sampang.

Over the past weekend, several major social networks that were not registered with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology within the specified deadline were banned. This led to massive youth protests in the country, known in the media as the ‘Generation Z Revolution.’ According to the ‘Kathmandu Post,’ citing the Ministry of Health, the death toll among police and protesters exceeded 50, with more than a thousand others injured.

The government decided to lift the ban on social media in Nepal, yet the protests did not subside. Protesters demanded Prime Minister Sharma Oli’s resignation, and last Tuesday they set fire to his private residence, stormed the government compound, and also set fire to the central office of the ruling Nepali Congress Party and the parliament building.

Following these events, the Nepalese Prime Minister resigned, and government officials were evacuated from their residences by helicopter. Late on Tuesday, the Nepalese armed forces took responsibility for maintaining order on the streets of Kathmandu and other cities in the country.
