Former world number two from Tunisia, Ons Jabeur, revealed on Monday that she is expecting her first child and will be taking a significant break from professional tennis.
“I took a short pause to refresh and recharge … It turns out, we’ve been planning the most adorable comeback ever,” the three-time Grand Slam finalist, affectionately called the “Minister of Happiness,” shared on Instagram.
The 31-year-old, currently ranked 79th, mentioned she will be pausing her career to embrace her new family life, as she is anticipating a baby boy in April.
Jabeur, who has claimed five WTA singles titles, has been candid about her battles with depression due to the rigorous tour schedule. Her announcement highlights ongoing concerns about the demanding tennis calendar.
