Palestinian Leadership Protests Israeli Control over Gaza

The Palestinian Representative to the Arab League, Ambassador Mohannad Al-Aklouk, told the Palestinian news agency ‘WAFA’ that the council will also discuss ‘putting an end to the humanitarian disaster engulfing the lives of citizens in Gaza through the commission of more horrific massacres within the framework of the crime of genocide, imposing more starvation amid the continued destruction of refugee camps, colonial expansion, demolition of homes and infrastructure, and the terrorizing of settlers in the occupied West Bank, along with the increasing raids on the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque.’

The Palestinian leadership has decided to approach the United Nations Security Council in protest against Israel’s intention to impose full control over Gaza and to call for emergency meetings of the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, demanding the intervention of U.S. President Donald Trump.

The Palestinian news agency ‘WAFA’ mentioned that ‘the Palestinian leadership has decided and called for emergency meetings of the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in protest against Israel’s intention to impose full control over Gaza.’

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated earlier that Israel intends to impose its control over the entire Gaza Strip to provide a ‘security perimeter’ and then transfer half of the sector to the control of a new ‘civil government.’ Netanyahu added that Israel does not intend to retain control over the Gaza Strip and that the purpose of the operation is limited to establishing a ‘security perimeter.’

For its part, the Hamas movement stated in a declaration on Friday that the Israeli Cabinet’s decision to occupy Gaza and evacuate its residents is a ‘new war crime,’ considering the decision explains the reason behind Israel’s sudden withdrawal from the last round of negotiations. Hamas confirmed that it ‘has provided all necessary flexibility and positivity to ensure the success of the ceasefire efforts and will spare no effort in taking all steps to pave the way for reaching an agreement.’

Israel resumed its bombing of the Gaza Strip on March 18, after a pause of nearly two months, specifically since the start of the ceasefire agreement with Hamas on January 19, following the failure of talks to extend the first phase of the agreement or move to its second phase. The ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas was supposed to continue once the first phase was extended, which ended on March 1, or entered its second phase, but disagreements between Israel and Hamas regarding the next steps prevented this.
