The taxi-sharing service, which allows multiple passengers to share a ride and the fare in one cab, has been extended to two more locations between Dubai and Abu Dhabi, according to Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) on Monday.

Initially launched in November last year, the shared taxi service operated between Ibn Battuta Mall in Dubai and Al Wahda Mall in Abu Dhabi.

The RTA has now expanded this service to cover two additional locations: Al Maktoum International Airport, with routes to Dubai Marina Mall, Business Bay Metro Station, and Palm Jumeirah – Atlantis Monorail Station; and Dubai World Trade Centre, with routes to Business Bay Metro Station, Al Satwa Bus Station, and Dubai Marina Mall.

This decision was driven by the success of last year’s initiative, which received significant interest from various community segments, who found it a convenient, fast, and affordable mobility solution.

“The shared taxi service between Ibn Battuta Mall and Al Wahda Mall has seen a remarkable 228% increase in ridership for travel between the two emirates. This high demand encouraged us to expand the service on a trial basis to two more locations,” stated Adel Shakri, Director of Planning and Business Development at RTA’s Public Transport Agency.

Shakri noted, “The goal is to lower fare costs for riders,” adding, “the initiative also alleviates traffic congestion by allowing multiple passengers to share a single taxi.”

“This strategy enhances traffic flow and offers clear environmental benefits, such as reducing the carbon footprint. It has also helped decrease unlicensed transport.”
