Seismologists stated, “The epicenter of the tremors was located 28.5 kilometers north of Napier, the administrative center of the province, and its source was at a depth of 10 kilometers.” They noted that no reports of injuries or damages have been received.
The institute clarified in a statement that the earthquake’s center was at a depth of 10 kilometers, and there have been no reports of human or material losses so far.
Indonesia is situated in a seismically active area known as the “Ring of Fire” in the Pacific Ocean, where tectonic plates collide, causing frequent earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. The tourist island of Flores in eastern Indonesia experienced a violent volcanic eruption last July, spewing massive ash columns that reached 18 kilometers above its crater.
The eruption occurred on the tourist island of Flores, as announced by the Indonesian volcanology agency, following weeks of similar volcanic activity that led to the cancellation of many flights to Bali.
