The study, which included 41 men divided into two groups – 20 young men aged between 18 and 35 years, and 21 men aged between 60 and 80 years – observed the effect of consuming a milkshake containing more than 1300 calories and 130 grams of fat, according to the Times of India. The researchers explained that disruption of this process could lead to excessive blood flow to the brain, increasing the long-term risk of dementia and strokes.
Despite the popularity of milkshakes with various flavors such as chocolate, banana, and caramel, researchers warned that their negative effects on the heart and brain might appear within hours of consumption. They noted that the study did not include women, leaving a knowledge gap about the impact of high-fat meals on their brains, especially since women are more prone to dementia and strokes as they age.
The researchers emphasized that diet not only affects long-term health but also has immediate effects on heart health, stressing that “every meal may carry significant importance” in maintaining brain health.
