According to a study conducted by researchers at the Third Military Medical University in China, sleep disorders may increase the risk of more than 170 diseases, as reported by Medical News Today. The study analyzed data from over 88,000 people in the UK Biobank database, tracking their sleep patterns and health diagnoses over seven years.
It was found that 92 of these diseases are linked to insufficient or disturbed sleep, including acute kidney failure and high blood pressure. The lead researcher, Dr. Cheng Chen, stated that regular sleep plays a crucial role in preventing a large number of diseases, noting that “the timing of sleep may be more impactful than the number of hours in certain health aspects, especially regarding diseases like Alzheimer’s.”
The study highlights the importance of maintaining a stable sleep pattern and suggests that improving sleep rhythm could be a significant preventive step for overall human health.
