For four weeks, researchers studied the effects on 236 young adults in Germany using daily smartphone surveys to monitor participants’ moods and their consumption of caffeinated beverages, according to Medical Xpress. The results, published in the journal ‘Scientific Reports,’ showed that caffeine significantly boosts mood, especially in the morning. Participants reported feeling happier and more energetic after consuming coffee or caffeinated drinks compared to days when they didn’t. The study revealed that caffeine enhances positive feelings more than it reduces negative moods such as sadness or anxiety, and this effect is not tied to any specific time of day.

Researcher Justin Haschenberger confirmed that the positive effect of caffeine was consistent among participants, regardless of their consumption habits or psychological conditions, such as depression or sleep disorders. However, researchers cautioned against excessive caffeine intake, noting that it could lead to addiction or health issues, especially if consumed late in the day, which may hinder sleep.

This study, focusing on everyday life outside of laboratory environments, is an important step in understanding caffeine’s impact on mood in real-life contexts. Ultimately, it seems that a morning cup of coffee is not just a daily ritual but an effective way to add a touch of happiness to the start of the day, as long as it is consumed in moderation.
