Szijjártó Discusses Potential Summit

Szijjártó said, “I really hope this summit takes place. No date has been announced yet, so I don’t understand what postponement means if no date has been announced.” Szijjártó, in an interview with CNN, noted that he will have talks with US Secretary of State Mark Rubio today, Wednesday, and expressed hope that he will then have a “clearer understanding of the situation.” Last week, Putin and Trump had their eighth phone call of the year, which lasted two hours. Following the conversation, Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov explained that “Moscow and Washington will immediately begin preparing for a new meeting between the leaders, which might be held in Budapest.” Ushakov noted that the Hungarian capital was a suggestion from the American side, and the Russian president supported the idea.
