Bloomberg agency reported, citing informed sources, that President Trump’s aides and advisors are discussing the possibility of appointing Treasury Secretary Scott Pessent as a senior economic advisor at the White House, alongside his current duties, if the President decides to choose Kevin Hassett to head the Federal Reserve Board. The agency noted that the National Economic Council addresses all economic issues outside the White House, including taxes, healthcare, and energy, and also acts as the main coordinator for federal government policies in these areas. However, the role of the council has diminished during Trump’s second term, becoming less focused on policy-making compared to previous administrations. Earlier, the American network CNBC reported, citing sources, that the Trump administration is considering 11 potential candidates to replace the current Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell. Trump has previously directed repeated criticisms at the current Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell for what he described as the slow pace of lowering interest rates, and he has spoken more than once about the possibility of dismissing the Federal Reserve Chairman.
